All eyes on Asian Aerospace for its last show in Singapore

13 February 2006, Singapore - The eyes of the world’s aerospace and defence media will be on the final presentation of Asian Aerospace in Singapore from February 21-26, 2006.

More than 700 representatives from 200 media organisations have been accredited to cover the last presentation of Asian Aerospace in Singapore.

The bulk of the world’s top aerospace and defence companies will be participating at the show, which is set to eclipse the event in 2004, which attracted close to 27,000 visitors over four trade days, and 48,000 visitors over the two public days.

Mr Ed Ng, President of Asian Aerospace 2006 Pte Ltd, said: “We expect over 900 exhibitors from 43 countries and 21 country pavilions. Exhibition participation has increased by 20%.  As a result, the show exhibition capacity has been expanded by about 20% to meet the increased demand.  Similarly, we have the largest number of military and civil delegations invited, and the number of official delegations looks set to exceed the 148 delegations record of the last event.  We also have the strongest conference calendar ever, with seven official conferences held throughout the week.  So it looks, so it looks like a solid week of business, networking and conference activities for all our trade participants.”

Mr Ng added: “The arrival of the double deckered Airbus A380 in the livery of launch customer, Singapore Airlines, will of course be one of the major attractions. The aircraft will be on static display and also take part in the daily flying display.”

The Republic of Singapore Air Force’s first attack helicopter, the Boeing AH-64D Longbow Apache, will make its public debut at Asian Aerospace.  Other military aircraft attractions include the United States Air Force B-1B Lancer supersonic bomber, as well as the F-15 and F-16 fighter aircraft, which will be involved in the daily show flying display.

Full-scale mock-ups of the Lockheed Martin Joint Strike Fighter and Gripen International’s Gripen will also be displayed at the show entrance, alongside an array of 44 actual civil, military and business fixed-wing and rotary aircraft at the static display area in the showsite.

Asian Aerospace will follow up on its pioneer unmanned air vehicle (UAV) flying display at the last show, with two entrants to the flying display this time round, in the shape of two medium altitude long endurance (MALE) UAVs – the IAI Malat’s Heron 1 and Elbit’s Hermes 450.

Mr Ng concluded: “We look forward to a very busy and productive week at Asian Aerospace and Asian Defence Technology 2006.”

The media are invited for a special media preview of the flying display on 20th February before the show opens. Asian Aerospace and Asian Defence Technology, which is held at Changi Exhibition Centre from 21-26 February 2006, is open to the public on 25-26 February 2006. Public day tickets are priced at S$21 for adult and S$7 for children below 12. Tickets are available at all SISTIC authorized agents and at the SISTIC website (www.sistic.com.sg).
