Newcastle Airport's March record passenger figures

Newcastle Airport announced that despite rising fuel prices passenger numbers continue to set new monthly records with March posting the second highest number of passenger movements recorded in the last ten years.

Newcastle Airport CEO Paul Hughes said that the ability of the Airport, the traveling community and the region to sustain long term growth has been remarkable.

“Newcastle Airport’s passenger figures would suggest that now more than ever air travel is an attractive and possibly more economical proposition than driving the family car to a holiday destination.”

“In February 2004 we had 61,054 passengers moving through the terminal, now in 2006 that figure has grown to 70,046 – the second highest passenger movements recorded to date.”

“The highest passenger movements of 71,023 were recorded in October 2005, traditionally the Airport’s strongest travel month.

“Newcastle Airport continues to work with all airlines to investigate new opportunities to diversity the product available to the traveling consumer.”

“We are currently working with Brindabella Airlines to promote their up and coming ski season service into Canberra,” said Paul Hughes.

“An additional late flight on Friday means that the Region’s skiing community can be on the slopes just three short hours after take off.
