250 personnel, four No. 1 Squadron F-111 aircraft and six No. 77 Squadron F/A-18 Hornet aircraft from Air Combat Group will deploy to Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, United States of America, to take part in the advanced air combat training exercise Red Flag. Australia will deploy and participate in Red Flag over the period 19 October to 12 November 2004 with crews beginning flying from Saturday 23 October.

Red Flag, is a realistic combat training exercise involving the air forces of the United States and its allies. It is conducted on the vast bombing and gunnery ranges at Nellis AFB, NV. It is one of a series of advanced training programs administered by the Air Warfare Center and Nellis, through the 414th Combat Training Squadron.
